Tariq and Juliana had a self admitted vague view of what they wanted. They had looked at various examples on the internet and in books, but had difficulty visualizing what they could do with their backyard. This being their first house and being a young couple, they were unsure of how long they would be living at this residence, and wanted to stick to a relatively moderate budget. The main objectives were to transform the barren backyard into something functional so that they could enjoy lounging in the backyard and hosting barbeques, increasing property value, and achieving a certain level of privacy.
Their original plan called for a wall of Italian Cypress trees along the back, and a rectangular concrete patio. We felt that once the Cypress trees rapidly grew into maturity it would dominate the backyard and give it a feeling of confinement.
Our suggestion was to use an assortment of strategically placed trees that would provide a near same level of privacy, but would be aesthetically pleasing.
The trees were clustered in two central areas to provide some focal points accessorized by a rock formation fountain, pond, and bench. A stone path from the patio tied the whole scenario together.
A perimeter was placed along the edges of the yard that varied in width to give it a free flowing natural feeling to it, this was then accented by various mounds. Some interesting plants were used to give it a contemporary flare to it. Continuing along that theme we made the patio concrete wave along in harmony to a path that went along side the house to the driveway.
